On the Road Again
I will soon depart for my 14th trip to the Holy Land. While I have ridden a good many camels like the ones above, the camel will not be the primary mode of transportation for the Tripsters accompanying me. On March 6, twenty - two intrepid travelers will board planes in one of eight states heading for the Holy Land. This group hails from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia and New Jersey. For a little more than two weeks, under the remarkable and insightful guidance of Dr. James Fleming, we will spend our days; deepening faith, discovering the Bible anew, delving into a different culture, it's history and archaeology, and developing new friendships. It will be a grand adventure. Such travel means we will never read the Bible and the newspaper the same way again.
I learn new things with every trip and love the way that travel to this amazing land enriches life. I have also learned that the destination of "Middle East" often produces anxiety to loved ones at home. Never in all of my trips have I felt any fear or worry. I anticipate this trip to be no different. In order to reassure those of you at home and to fill you in on our adventure, I will post a note - hopefully each day- on this blog. It may at times be short and mainly a picture, but it will connect you to our sojourn. Don't fret if I miss a day. Technological connections are not always perfect and neither is the technological know how of this blogger. :)
I love the Marcel Proust quote, "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." We will see new and different landscapes that will thrill as well as challenge, but the real blessing of the trip will be having eyes that see in new ways - eyes that see with the heart.
Blessings,
